Delays and User Reactions

Google Search Console is indispensable for monitoring website performance on Google Search. It provides critical insights into search queries, clicks, impressions, and average positions.

However, users have been facing delays of over 75 hours in accessing the latest performance data. This latency disrupts the ability to make data-driven decisions, optimize content, and respond to trends promptly.

The latency issue was first acknowledged by Daniel Waisberg of Google, who stated on Twitter, “We are looking into it.”

Following this, on July 2, Google’s official channels confirmed the problem, apologizing for the inconvenience and promising a swift resolution.

Update. At 1:58 PM on July 3, Google posted: 

The fresh data for this report is currently being reprocessed, and is likely to take at least 2-3 days to fully catch up. We’ll let you know here when it’s fully resolved. Thanks for your patience.

Some users are wondering why the status of the delay is not in the Google Search Status Dashboard like other search-related issues. This question was raised by Rüdiger Dalchow. John Mueller replied on LinkedIn, explaining that the dashboard is reserved for core search systems such as crawling, indexing, or ranking. Since this is just a reporting issue and has no direct impact on core ranking, it is not included in the report. Instead, they confirm the issue on social media and document it on the data anomalies page.

A Mixed Bag of Frustration and Patience

The reaction from the SEO community has been a mix of frustration and understanding. Many SEO professionals have voiced their concerns about the impact of these delays on their ability to deliver timely reports to clients and make informed decisions about their campaigns.

John Mueller, another prominent Google representative, clarified on LinkedIn that the delays were not related to any core algorithm update, dispelling rumors and speculation. He emphasized that reporting issues are separate from the processes involved in ranking updates.

Consequences for SEO and Website Management

The absence of up-to-date performance data hampers SEO professionals’ ability to track keyword rankings, diagnose issues, and optimize strategies. This can lead to a reactive rather than proactive approach, potentially diminishing the effectiveness of SEO efforts.

Webmasters, especially those managing multiple sites, face challenges in monitoring site health and performance due to the lack of current data. When something like this happens the webmasters are left with the data from SEO tools to assess the website’s performance.
