The same standard impression rules apply.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Position: Position metrics are calculated using standard rules for search features like carousels, images or link blocks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Importantly, when users ask follow-up questions, it starts a new query. All impressions and clicks resulting from that interaction are logged under the new query.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s take an example of a user who asks \u201cBest books for productivity\u201d \u2192 clicks on your blog \u2192 then asks \u201cAre Atomic Habits better than Deep Work?\u201d The second question starts a new query and if your page appears again, it is counted separately.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"why-does-this-matters\"><\/span><b>Why Does This Matters?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s be honest, if you have recently seen a spike (or dip) in your search traffic but couldn\u2019t figure out why, this might be the answer.<\/p>\n<p>AI Mode clicks and impressions are intermingled with traditional search results under the \u201cWeb\u201d search type in Search Console. That means:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">You won\u2019t see a separate metric called \u201cAI Mode Clicks\u201d<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">There\u2019s no way to segment or filter AI Mode data (for now)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">It may look like you are getting more visibility than before and even if your rankings haven\u2019t changed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>No Technical Changes Required (Yet)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Worried about whether you need to optimize differently for AI Mode?<\/p>\n<p>Take a breath. Google says:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best practices for SEO remain relevant for AI features in Google Search.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You do not need special markup. You don\u2019t need AI-specific schema. No need to generate machine-readable AI files or change your current SEO plugins. All your usual tools\u2014noindex, nosnippet, max-snippet still work to control AI snippet appearances. In other words, your current SEO game is still valid.<\/p>\n<p>But\u2026 (and it is a big but) strategy might still need a rethink.<\/p>\n<p><b>No Visibility on AI Mode Alone\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>What makes this more complex is the fact that there\u2019s currently no way to distinguish between the two. There is not a separate category labeled \u201cAI Mode Clicks,\u201d nor is there an available filter to isolate this traffic.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Everything appears under the same umbrella, giving the illusion of increased visibility even if your actual rankings have not changed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a result, interpreting performance data becomes more challenging and drawing clear conclusions about what\u2019s driving traffic becomes significantly harder.<\/p>\n<p><b>So&#8230; How Should You Adjust?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s see.<\/p>\n<p>If you are already investing in SEO and high-quality content, AI Mode could actually be a net positive for you.<\/p>\n<p>Think about it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">AI Mode loves structured, informative and semantically-rich content.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">It thrives on context. Answering \u201cwhat,\u201d \u201cwhy,\u201d and \u201chow\u201d in a single article increases your chance of being surfaced.<br \/>\nSites with expertise, authority and trust (E-A-T) may become preferred links in AI responses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"strategy-tips\"><\/span><b>Strategy Tips:<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>Audit your top-performing pages:<\/b> See if sudden spikes in impressions\/clicks correlate with AI Mode\u2019s rollout.<\/p>\n<p><b>Revise old content for depth:<\/b> Broader, more complete answers can increase fan-out presence.<\/p>\n<p><b>Watch bounce rates &amp; time-on-page:<\/b> If AI Mode traffic really is \u201chigher quality,\u201d your site analytics will reflect it.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"whats-last\"><\/span><b>What&#8217;s Last?\u00a0<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It is easy to ignore a quiet documentation update.
