She was also one of the first women in SEO helping bring diversity and a strong moral compass into a growing industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She also co-created the RankWrite newsletter, the first to truly dissect content SEO in plain language. This was not content for the sake of ranking; it was content for the sake of serving. The audience was packed with professionals from around the world.<\/p>\n<p>It was Jill\u2019s first time on stage. There was a gong beside the podium which was meant to sound off if a speaker ran over time. Despite the pressure, Jill delivered an outstanding presentation that established her as a credible and courageous thought leader in SEO.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe went from a stay-at-home mom to speaking internationally,\u201d recalled Heather Lloyd-Martin, a friend and early collaborator. \u201cIt was revolutionary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This story became legendary within the SEO community not just because of the event but because it symbolized how Jill broke boundaries, took risks and inspired others to do the same.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"retirement-on-her-own-terms-and-a-new-life-beyond-seo\"><\/span><b>Retirement on Her Own Terms and a New Life Beyond SEO<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In a surprising move, Jill retired from the SEO industry in 2013, even while still at the top of her game.<\/p>\n<p>She believed SEO had and the space had become crowded with aggressive marketing, shady link-building schemes and a hunger for traffic rather than truth.
