AIM does not just add a new layer of logic but essentially ignores what is ranking organically. So being #1 in traditional SEO? Does not guarantee you will be featured in AI Mode at all\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"where-does-ai-mode-pull-its-sources-from\"><\/span><b>Where Does AI Mode Pull Its Sources From?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One fascinating insight: Google properties dominate AIM responses. That means 5.7% of all citations were to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\">www.google.com<\/a>. 97.9% of those links pointed to Google Maps business profiles especially when local context was involved.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And in 9.2% of responses, business cards linking to Google Maps appeared prominently, showing NAP data and reviews.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In contrast to AIOs, which often send users back to the search page, AI Mode keeps users within the Google ecosystem. It also frequently links to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Google Travel (flights, hotels)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Google Finance<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">But rarely links back to organic search results.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This underscores Google\u2019s effort to control the user journey within its AI framework.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"top-cited-websites-in-ai-mode\"><\/span><b>Top-Cited Websites in AI Mode<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Despite volatility in specific URLs, a few domains consistently emerged as authoritative favorites:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3548\" title=\"Cited Websites in AI Mode\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stanventures.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Cited-Websites-in-AI-Mode.png\" alt=\"Cited Websites in AI Mode\" width=\"633\" height=\"483\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stanventures.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Cited-Websites-in-AI-Mode.png 633w, https:\/\/www.stanventures.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Cited-Websites-in-AI-Mode-300x229.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 633px) 100vw, 633px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">indeed.com (1.8%)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">wikipedia.org (1.6%)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">reddit.com (1.5%)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">youtube.com (1.4%)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">nerdwallet.com (1.2%)\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>These sites appeared across all datasets, suggesting that AIM favors familiar, trusted domains, even if it rotates which pages are cited<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"inline-vs-block-links%e2%80%94how-is-ai-mode-structuring-sources\"><\/span><b>Inline vs Block Links\u2014How Is AI Mode Structuring Sources<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Here is how AI Mode uses its 122,617 analyzed citations:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3549\" title=\"AI Mode Structuring Sources\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stanventures.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/AI-Mode-Structuring-Sources.png\" alt=\"AI Mode Structuring Sources\" width=\"1015\" height=\"535\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stanventures.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/AI-Mode-Structuring-Sources.png 1015w, https:\/\/www.stanventures.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/AI-Mode-Structuring-Sources-300x158.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1015px) 100vw, 1015px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">90.8% were block links which are placed in a sidebar or below the response.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">8.9% were in-text links embedded in the response.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">0.3% were AIM SERP-style links short organic-style sections within the AI response.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Why does this matter?<\/p>\n<p>Because block links are more likely to be skipped by users, while inline links and especially those at the beginning of the response get higher visibility and likely more clicks.<\/p>\n<p>If your content is cited within the first few lines, your CTR could spike. But if you are buried in the sidebar? You might go unnoticed.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"personalization-and-location-influence\"><\/span><b>Personalization and Location Influence<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Even when no location is mentioned in the query, AI Mode appears to adjust results based on the user\u2019s location.<\/p>\n<p>In the dataset: Local queries often triggered business profiles and map links, National queries returned different domains based on searcher region.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3550\" title=\"Personalization and Location Influence\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stanventures.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Personalization-and-Location-Influence.png\" alt=\"Personalization and Location Influence\" width=\"1999\" height=\"899\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stanventures.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Personalization-and-Location-Influence.png 1999w, https:\/\/www.stanventures.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Personalization-and-Location-Influence-300x135.png 300w, https:\/\/www.stanventures.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Personalization-and-Location-Influence-1024x461.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1999px) 100vw, 1999px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">A search about &#8220;best Thai food&#8221; in Texas triggers different results than in Denver.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Even non-location-based queries return local business profiles depending on where you are.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This personalization hints that Google is now blending semantic AI with local context, even in general queries. It makes sense but it means results vary even more between users.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So what you see in AIM is probably not what your client, customer or audience sees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"search-is-not-dying%e2%80%94it-is-becoming-ai\"><\/span><b>Search Is Not Dying\u2014It is Becoming AI<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Google\u2019s AI Mode isn\u2019t a new tab. It is a new foundation. It moves fast. It is unpredictable. It draws from a much wider universe of sources. And it does not care where you rank in the blue links.<\/p>\n<p>This is a search in 2025 and it rewards intent, depth, context and diversity, not just SEO tactics. The future is clear that the AI search race is already running and visibility now depends on your ability to adapt, not just
