Smaller tools such as Claude, Deepseek, and others make up the rest.<\/p>\n<p>These numbers indicate that, although Google still sends the most traffic overall, the way people access information is changing rapidly.<\/p>\n<p>Stox included a quote from Ahrefs\u2019 own Ryan Law on one slide, reminding attendees that \u201cGoogle still sends far more traffic. And it\u2019s still your best marketing channel.\u201d The point was that AI search does not replace traditional search; it extends it.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ai-traffic-is-rising-rapidly\"><\/span><b>AI Traffic Is Rising Rapidly<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Ahrefs\u2019 Web Analytics data, based on 82,000 sites, showed a dramatic rise in AI-generated traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Over the previous twelve months, <b>AI traffic had grown by approximately 9.7 times<\/b>. ChatGPT accounted for the vast majority of AI-related referrals. The trendline in Ahrefs\u2019 chart was steep, indicating that AI-driven discovery is mainstream.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"the-great-decoupling\"><\/span><b>The Great Decoupling<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of the most striking sections of Stox\u2019s presentation was titled \u201cThe Great Decoupling.\u201d It referred to the growing separation between impressions and clicks in Google Search Console data.<\/p>\n<p>Ahrefs analyzed roughly 800,000 Google Search Console properties, observing that impressions are increasing while clicks are declining.<\/p>\n<p>The cause, Stox explained through his visuals, lies in Google\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stanventures.com\/news\/how-ai-overviews-ai-featured-snippets-are-transforming-search-results-1796\/\">AI Overviews<\/a> (AIOs). These generative summaries now appear in roughly <b>19%<\/b> of search results, based on Ahrefs\u2019 analysis of one million SERPs.<\/p>\n<p>A separate chart showed how the average click-through rate for position #1 had dropped by <b>34.5%<\/b> in March 2025. Underneath, Stox included the line:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAI Overviews reduce clicks by 34.5%. Product pages and homepages performed better in traditional search, while informational and data-study pages tended to perform better through AI assistants.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"global-bias-and-language-limitations\"><\/span><b>Global Bias and Language Limitations<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Ahrefs\u2019 data also showed that international pages perform poorly in AI search. The reason, according to the presentation, is that the <b>international corpus of training data is smaller<\/b>, and <b>English-language content is more likely to be cited<\/b> by AI assistants.<\/p>\n<p>However, the slides also noted that <b>translated content has better chances of being cited<\/b>. One line on the slide stated clearly: \u201cYou won\u2019t be cited at all without translated content.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In other words, creating localized versions of data-driven or research-heavy pages can help brands appear in AI-generated results that rely on source citations.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"brands-dominate-in-ai-overviews\"><\/span><b>Brands Dominate in AI Overviews<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Ahrefs examined which factors most strongly correlate with appearing in AI-generated search summaries.
