How a Hemp Brand Won 24 New Page-One Keywords

The Client

A Florida-Based Hemp Brand Betting Everything On Organic Search

A long-standing agency partner had just signed a hemp brand and run straight into the wall every hemp marketer knows: the fastest ways to grow are mostly closed off. So they handed us the one channel that still compounds in this niche, link building, and let us run it white-label while they steered the rest.

This Florida-based hemp brand sells the hard way: seed to shelf. It formulates and lab-tests its own CBD, Delta 8, Delta 9, and CBN gummies, vapes, and tinctures, and stocks kratom shots, drinks, and topicals alongside them. It’s been at it for the better part of a decade, long before the category got crowded.

Here’s the catch with hemp: the big ad platforms mostly won’t take your money. No Google Ads, no Meta campaigns, so every new customer has to arrive through organic search, email, or word of mouth. That makes the search results page the only shelf space that matters.

The Challenge

DR 30, 328 Referring Domains, And A Site Migration Five Months In

At kickoff in late September 2025, the site sat at DR 30 with 328 referring domains and roughly 1,580 organic visits a month, per Ahrefs. The terms that sell product, think “strongest thc gummies” and “kratom shot,” belonged to marketplaces and national brands. The backlink profile also carried old junk that needed pruning before anything new could count.

Then, five months in, the brand moved its entire store onto a new platform. Migrations shake rankings loose no matter how carefully you stage them, and this one was no exception. The program had to absorb a full URL restructure without letting the link work stall.

The Strategy

Fix The Foundation, Map The Keywords, Compound The Links

A fully managed program on a monthly drumbeat, with nothing going live until the client signed off.

01

Foundation

Technical audits, GSC error fixes, structured data, and monthly backlink audits with disavow submissions. When the store moved platforms, the team ran full post-migration triage.

02

Content

Seed keyword research across the Delta 9, Delta 8, CBD, and THCP themes fed keyword-mapped landing pages, 15 rebuilt and 12 new, plus one pillar blog and four cluster posts a month.

03

Links

Six guest posts a month across three tiers: DA 40+, DA 50+, and sites with 10k+ monthly traffic. Five organic community links and brand mentions rounded out each month.

04

Control

Every guest post domain, every disavow list, every content outline crossed the client’s desk before it shipped. The whole engagement ran on an approval log, not on trust falls.

The Results

529 New Referring Domains And Four New #1 Rankings

Everything below comes straight from Ahrefs, kickoff through August 14, 2026.

857
+161% SINCE KICKOFF

Referring domains pointing at the site, up from 328 at kickoff. That’s 529 new linking domains in under a year.

24
NEW PAGE-ONE KEYWORDS

Terms with 50+ monthly searches sitting in Google’s top 10 today that had no ranking at all last September.

4
NEW #1 RANKINGS

Keywords at position 1 today that were nowhere in the results when the program started.

One number we won’t dress up: organic traffic. It climbed 62% by February, from 1,582 estimated visits a month to 2,564, then the migration clawed a chunk of that back, which is what migrations do. The links kept compounding straight through the dip, and traffic has been rebuilding since late July on a cleaner site with 2.6x the referring domains it started with.

From Nowhere To Page One On Terms That Sell Product

None of these are brand searches. They’re the commercial queries shoppers type when they already want the product, pulled from Ahrefs on August 14, 2026 and compared against the late September 2025 kickoff snapshot. “Not ranking” means the site didn’t appear in the results at all back then.

Why It Worked

Links And Content Pulled In The Same Direction

Plenty of hemp brands buy links to pages that were never built to rank, then wonder why nothing moves. Here the research, the content, and the outreach all pulled from one keyword map, so every placement pointed somewhere with a job to do. And the cleanup ran first, which meant new links landed on a profile worth building on.

  • Pre-approved placements. The client saw every guest post domain before outreach started, so no link ever landed somewhere embarrassing.
  • One keyword map. Landing pages, blogs, and anchors all pulled from the same research.
  • Cleanup before scale. Monthly backlink audits and disavow submissions kept junk from diluting the new links.
  • A cadence that held. Six tiered guest posts and five community links a month, every month, migration included.
  • One account manager. The same person from the first strategy call to this month’s report.
