How to Use Apple Writing Tools in Google Docs

Many content marketers today prefer using Google Docs over traditional programs like Word or Pages.

This shift is mainly because of Google Docs’ flexibility, offering real-time collaboration and easy access across various devices.

However, with Apple’s new Intelligence-based Writing Tools, marketers are eager to try out this advanced feature as an alternative to ChatGPT and other LLMs while using Google Docs, especially on Safari and Chrome.

But the bottleneck is that Google Docs has a separate set of options for its right-click, and they are specific to Google.

I have been hearing a lot of content marketers asking how to make use of Apple’s  new Writing features within Google Docs.

Here’s a simple guide on how to access and use Apple Intelligence Writing Tools within Google Docs:

Step 1: Open Google Docs in Safari or Chrome

Launch your Google Docs document in either Safari or Chrome.

While Google Docs works well across browsers, many Mac users prefer Safari for better integration with Apple tools.

Step 2: Select and Copy Text to be Rewritten

Choose the text that you want Apple Intelligence to rewrite or enhance.

Copy the selection by highlighting it and pressing Command + C or using the traditional right click.

Without copying, the tool will show an error message, “Try a longer selection.”

Step 3: Bypass Google-Specific Right-Click

When working in Google Docs, right-clicking often displays a Google-specific context menu, which doesn’t feature the Apple Intelligence Writing Tools.

To use Apple’s tools, avoid relying on the right-click option.

Step 4 – Access Apple Writing Tools via the Taskbar

  • Move your cursor to the Taskbar at the top of your screen.
  • Hover over the Edit menu.
  • Select Writing Tools from the dropdown list.

This action opens the Apple Intelligence Writing Tools options, allowing you to edit and enhance text directly within Google Docs.

Step 5: Utilize Apple’s Writing Suggestions

With the Apple Writing Tools now accessible:

Choose from a range of options like grammar suggestions, rephrasing, and more advanced editing features.

Once Apple Intelligence suggests improvements, review them and make necessary adjustments to your document.

Step 6: Replace Text in Google Docs

After applying any writing enhancements from Apple, copy the improved text and replace it in your Google Doc.

This allows you to leverage Apple’s capabilities while still enjoying the collaboration features of Google Docs.

Quick Tips:

  • This process works seamlessly in both Safari and Chrome.
  • Use Apple Writing Tools for sections where you need more polish, then paste the refined text into your Google Doc.

By following these simple steps, you can enhance your Google Docs experience with Apple Intelligence Writing Tools, making your content editing easier and more effective.
