What You Need to Know in 60 Seconds
- Google rolled out info monitoring in AI Mode to everyone globally on 28 September 2026. Users ask it to watch something, and it alerts them when that thing changes.
- An alert names one or two sources, not ten links. If your brand isn’t trusted, it isn’t mentioned, and you never find out.
- Google isn’t alone. OpenAI moved ChatGPT toward proactive updates a year earlier. Every major assistant is heading the same way.
- AI systems trust what credible third parties say about a brand more than what the brand says about itself.
- That is exactly the gap AI Mentions and Digital PR were built to close, and it’s why we launched both ahead of this moment.
Search Used to Wait for You. Now It Comes Back to You.
Google’s VP of Product for Search, Robby Stein, announced on X that info monitoring in AI Mode is now rolling out to everyone, after paid subscribers had it first. According to Search Engine Journal, Search keeps checking sites, forums, social posts, real-time data and Google’s Shopping Graph on the user’s behalf.
Every example Google gave was local or shopping: new restaurants nearby, holiday activities for kids, back-in-stock items and price drops. Google will also suggest monitoring tasks during normal searches, so people who never go looking for the feature will still end up using it.
One detail matters more than the rest. Google hasn’t said how Search picks the sources behind an update. What we do know is how AI systems already choose who to cite, and the numbers are hard to ignore.
Citation figures from a July 2026 LLM Pulse study of 391,073 citations across five AI engines.
This Isn’t a Google Feature. It’s Where Every AI Assistant Is Going.
Google isn’t first here, and that’s the point. OpenAI launched ChatGPT Pulse in September 2025 to research overnight and send updates without being asked, as Tom’s Guide reported. Sam Altman described it as a move from reactive to proactive, according to MobileSyrup.
What Google adds is scale. Monitoring now lives inside the search product most people already use. An AI that watches for you is an AI you keep opening, so expect the rest of the industry to follow in months, not years.
“Authority used to help you rank. Now it decides whether an AI mentions you at all.”

Rankings Got You Seen. Trust Gets You Named.
Here’s how the rules change when AI stops listing results and starts reporting back. The last row is the one most brands haven’t caught up with yet.
We Launched AI Mentions and Digital PR for Exactly This Moment
In 2025, the direction of search was already clear to us. AI answers were replacing lists of links, and the brands those answers named weren’t always the ones ranking first. They were the ones the wider web talked about, cited and recommended.
Links still mattered, and they still do. But links alone couldn’t guarantee that an AI would bring a brand up when someone asked for a recommendation. So we didn’t wait for the market to force the change. We launched AI Mentions and Digital PR in 2025, so our agency partners and their clients would already be building trust when features like AI Mode monitoring arrived.
We’ve seen the results firsthand. Clients increasingly pair backlinks with AI Mentions instead of buying links on their own. And a growing share of our own new business now arrives through AI assistants like ChatGPT and Perplexity, not just Google.
Today, those services work together as one system. Stan Ventures builds the authority infrastructure that makes brands trusted, discoverable and recommendable across search engines, AI platforms and the wider web.
Backlinks
The foundation. Editorial links from a network of 50,000+ vetted publishers that still power rankings and strengthen the sources AI reads.
AI Mentions
Getting your brand discussed, cited and recommended where AI assistants look, then tracking how often they actually name you.
Digital PR
Coverage in publications people already trust. The third-party proof that turns an unknown brand into one AI feels safe recommending.
Authority Growth OS
All three layers run as one program, so authority compounds across search, AI platforms and the wider web instead of living in separate silos.
Six Moves to Make Before the Next Alert Fires
Clean data gets a brand considered. Authority gets it chosen. You need both, and the festive and holiday sales are only weeks away.
Fix the Data AI Reads
Accurate product feeds, Product and Offer schema with sale price and stock status, and clear shipping and return policies. A price the AI can’t verify is a price it won’t report.
Keep Every Price Consistent
Feed, product page and checkout should match. Keep URLs stable before big sales so tracking doesn’t break mid-event.
Earn Third-Party Credibility
Coverage in trusted publications, genuine reviews and mentions in gift guides and category roundups. This is what separates a known brand from an unknown one.
Be the Source for Something
Own-brand products, specialist stock and hard-to-find variants give AI a reason to name you instead of a marketplace.
Test the Alerts Yourself
Set up AI Mode monitors on your own products and your competitors’. Log who gets named and whether the alert links out.
Track Mentions, Not Just Rankings
Measure how often AI systems name your brand when they answer or alert on your category. For agencies, this is the next report your clients will ask for.
Your Questions, Answered
What is info monitoring in Google AI Mode?
It lets users ask AI Mode to keep watching something, like a price, a product’s stock or new local openings. Search keeps checking and sends an update when something changes.
Can brands pay to appear in these alerts?
Google hasn’t said. Until it does, trust earned across the web is the only lever you fully control.
Does link building still matter?
Yes. Links still drive rankings and strengthen the pages AI systems read. What’s changed is that links work best alongside mentions and coverage, not on their own.
How long does it take to build AI visibility?
Trust compounds over months, not weeks. You can’t build it the week a feature launches, which is why starting now matters more than starting perfectly.
Can agencies offer AI Mentions and Digital PR under their own brand?
Yes. Stan Ventures delivers both fully white-labeled, so agencies can add them to client retainers without building a new team.
