Google Simplifies Search Console Reports With AI-Powered Configuration

Google has rolled out a new AI-powered configuration feature in Google Search Console that lets users build Search Performance reports by simply describing what they want to see. The update is now live for all users worldwide.

Google has officially launched its AI-powered configuration tool inside Google Search Console, moving the feature out of its experimental phase and making it available to everyone.

The rollout follows an initial announcement made in early December and has now reached full availability.

The update introduces a simpler way to configure Search Performance reports. Instead of manually selecting filters, metrics, and comparisons, users can describe their analysis request in plain language. The system then applies the correct settings automatically

This change aims to reduce the time and effort required to access meaningful search performance data, especially for users who find Search Console powerful but difficult to navigate.

How the AI Configuration Feature Works

The AI-powered configuration tool functions as an assistant within the Search Performance report.

Users can type requests such as wanting to compare traffic across date ranges or view performance for specific pages, devices, or countries.

Based on that request, Google Search Console automatically configures the report by handling three key elements:

  • It applies filters such as query, page, country, device, search appearance, and date range
  • It sets up comparisons, including custom time periods
  • It selects which metrics appear in the report, choosing from clicks, impressions, average click-through rate, and average position

This removes the need to click through multiple menus just to answer common performance questions.

Current Limitations Users Should Know About

While the feature adds convenience, Google has clearly defined its boundaries.

The AI-powered configuration tool currently works only within the Search Performance report for standard search results. It does not support Discover or Google News data.

It is also limited to the report setup.

The tool cannot sort tables, export data, or perform actions beyond configuring filters, comparisons, and metrics.

Google also notes that AI-generated configurations may not always reflect user intent perfectly, making it important to review the settings before analyzing the data

Why This Update Is Useful for SEO and Site Owners

Search Console has always offered detailed performance insights, but extracting the right view of the data often required experience and patience. This update lowers that barrier.

For SEO professionals, it speeds up routine analysis and reduces repetitive setup work. For smaller site owners and publishers, it makes advanced reporting more accessible without requiring deep familiarity with Search Console’s interface.

The feature also reflects a broader pattern in Google’s product development, where AI is being embedded directly into existing tools rather than introduced as separate systems.

Practical Tips for Using the Feature Well

To get reliable insights from the AI-powered configuration tool:

  1. Write clear and specific requests rather than vague prompts.
  2. Check the generated filters and comparisons before trusting the results.
  3. Use the AI setup as a starting point, then adjust manually if needed.
  4. Keep its scope in mind, especially if you rely on Discover or News data.

Approaching the feature as a helper rather than a final decision-maker will lead to better analysis.

What This Launch Signals

Google’s decision to automate report configuration suggests a shift in how performance data is expected to be used. The focus is moving toward faster insight generation rather than manual data assembly.

As AI becomes more integrated into Search Console, users can expect further changes that prioritize accessibility, speed, and clarity over complex setup processes.

Key Takeaways

  • Google has fully launched AI-powered configuration in Search Console.
  • Users can describe analyses in plain language.
  • The tool configures filters, comparisons, and metrics automatically.
  • It currently supports only Search Performance reports.
  • Reviewing AI-generated settings remains essential.
